H.E Dr. Hamad Abdullah Al Ghafri

Since its inception in 2002 under the insightful directives of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan - May Allah bless his soul, Abu Dhabi Rehabilitation Center has endeavored to become a leading center specialized in drug addiction treatment. Following the pass away of Sheikh Zayed, NRC continued to deliver on its mandate under the directions of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan - President of UAE; a special guidance from His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan - Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and an ongoing follow up by His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
From the very beginning, we planned to become a leading rehab center playing an effective role in addressing all types of addiction. Therefore, we engaged with medical staff of high caliber and conducted researches and studies to enhance our people knowledge and skills to enable them to provide comprehensive and integrated treatment solutions while maintaining the privacy of our patients.

With a new milestone in 2010, we embarked on a strategic plan to move NRC from a center providing addiction treatment services only into a leading center delivering Emirate-wide quality treatment and education programs to all community segments. Accordingly, a number of studies and field surveys were conducted and several programs were launched to promote preventive practices and raise awareness. Just one year following the strategic plan kickoff, NRC won ISO 9001. Furthermore, many agreements, partnerships and MOUs were enter into with local and international institutions. Locally, three MOUs were signed with the Family Development Foundation, Abu Dhabi Education Council and Emirates National Schools. Two cooperation agreements were made with Abu Dhabi Police and Social Support Centers. A partnership was established with Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in UAE University. All were intended to provide treatment, rehab and education services in particular to juvenile offenders. Internationally, NRC established two partnerships with King’s College of London and with Maclean Hospital of Harvard University; and signed MOUs with UN Office on Drugs & Crime, US Matrix Institute and with University of Eberdeen in UK. It also signed an agreement with Colombo Plan Organization to supervise the issuance of an academic magazine specialized in addiction science.

Other achievements include the launch of an out-patient clinic in 2010 and the launch of Khalifa Rehabilitation Complex which provides a comprehensive and graduated treatment program comprising of an overall evaluation of the patient’s health situation, setting a treatment plan, toxicity elimination, consultation and medication, family interventions, religious and spiritual guidance and vocational training.
Currently, NRC is planning for several future projects the most significant of which is the construction of a permanent headquarters; it is conceived as a one-stop medical treatment center based on the latest scientific drug addiction solutions. It will be made up of several suites including Diagnosis, Toxicity Elimination, Rehabilitation, Teens and VIPs.
