A coordination meeting held between the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) and Drug Enforcement Department in Abu Dhabi on 04/01/2010, the meeting discussed the project of application of the mechanism of issuing Criminal Status search certificates for ex-offenders in cases of drugs and addiction files. The mechanism approved by His Highness Shiekh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan/Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in order to facilitate the recruitment process of this group of young nationals when seeking jobs in the government, semi government and private organizations. His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdalla Al Ghaferi praised at the beginning of the meeting the generous gesture from His Highness the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for his approval of the mechanism of issuing criminal status search certificates for offenders in drugs and addiction cases, as a result the period of issuing this certificates decreases from two years to six months to enable this group to get a suitable employment opportunity that will help them to engage in the community and to serve the UAE and its citizens. His Excellency also praised the fruitful cooperation between the centre and the Drug Enforcement Department in terms of referring patients who are desperately need to seek treatment in the centre to get the required care through the enrollment in the treatment, psychological and social programs that are provided for patients and their families.
During the meeting the conditions of issuing this certificate were discussed, these conditions are: the applicant should complete 6 months in periodic inspection with no delays in appointments or in sudden inspection, all tests results should be reported negative and a positive report from the centre about the applicant’s behavior and psychological status if the applicant was admitted and treated at the centre. At the end of the meeting the two parties approved the implementation plans for both patients who have files at the centre and those who have no files; the two parties suggested forming a committee in order to execute the mechanism and beginning to implement it.
