It is one of the most abused drugs around the world. It is a depressant (slows you down).

Effects – vary with amount used

  • Most people feel relaxed and sociable.
  • Slurred speech, staggered gait.
  • Poor coordination.
  • Heightened emotion.
  • Depressant effect, memory problems.

Complications
Physical dependence can occur. Tolerance increases with regular use and you will need more alcohol to have the same desired effect.

A- Medical complications: CNS, Gastrointestinal (Peptic and Duodenal ulcer), Liver disease, Cardiovascular disease.
B- Psychological: e.g. depression, anxiety, memory difficulties, social neglect, family conflict.
C- Social: Crime, homicide, unemployment.

Domestic violence (family, friends), car accidents.
Drinking excessive alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning and even death in naïve drinkers (i.e. beginners)

Long Term use is also associated with liver disease or damage, cancer of the stomach, alcohol related brain injury. Alcohol affects every organ of your body.

Legal Status
Illegal for Muslims.
For non-Muslim expatriates, a license is required.
For Muslims it is totally illegal and those caught will be punished under Sharia and U.A.E. Penal Code.
