Amphetamines

Other Names:

Captogon, Speed, XTC, ICE, Doves, Adam, Yappa etc.

A synthetic stimulant, its use in the U.A.E. is minimal as compared to other drugs.
It comes in the form of a grey or white powder or in a tablet form.
It can be snorted, smoked, swallowed, dissolved in a drink or injected.

Effects
Because it is a stimulant, it increases breathing and heart rate.
• Emotions are intensified.
• Others feel confident and energetic, anxious, irritable, confused and paranoid.
• Mood swings and depression is common among users.


Long Term Effects / Risks
• Users may become psychologically dependent.
• Tolerance – increase in dose to achieve desired effects.
• Causes insomnia, paranoia and confusion.
• Increase in blood pressure.
• Anxiety, panic attacks, psychosis, hallucinations.
• Also, higher doses may lead to death as a result of cerebral haemorrhage, coma and convulsion.

The Law
Amphetamines are illegal in the U.A.E., punishable by a harsh sentence.
