Sedatives are commonly prescribed to treat anxiety, stress and as adjunct in epilepsy and seizures disorders.
They are usually taken orally.
They are abused by some people to counter the effects of stimulant drugs, or taken in combination when users are unable to obtain other illicit drugs.
Effects
In controlled/small doses they reduce anxiety. In higher doses they cause drowsiness and impair judgement.
NOTE! It is extremely dangerous when taken with alcohol or other drugs.
Long Term Effects / Risks
• Tolerance can develop, most of them are addictive.
• Users trying to quit may suffer panic attacks and seizures.
• Some can cause short term memory loss.
