| New Strategic Planning for the National Rehabilitation Centre 2010 -2014 |
The new strategic planning for the National Rehabilitation Centre consists of initiatives and projects that will lead the centre to provide unique and outstanding services in the field of preventing, treating and rehabilitating addiction to meet the needs of all segments of the society. His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdalla Al Ghaferi/NRC Director General stated that the centre has signed a memorandum of understanding with “Betty Ford Foundation” which is one of the greatest international institutions to benefit from their expertise and cooperation in the exchange of experts and knowledge transfer to the latest intervention that is reached in the field of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation from addiction.
His Excellency added that one of the most important strategic initiatives is establishing the new centre with a bed capacity of 200 to accommodate the largest number of services and treatment seekers. In addition to expanding the scope of services provided to include the provision of services in the Eastern and Western Regions of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi due to the large number of patients coming from those areas to the centre. Also the Center’s services will emerge from the circle of the building to reach the prisons to treat of those convicted in drug cases, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior. His Excellency pointed that in accordance to the new strategy; there will be a project to provide treatment and rehabilitation programs for addicted women, a first project of its kind to be conducted by female staff from A-Z and a specialized female doctor hired and a team of specialized local nurses as well. Further, as a desire of the National Rehabilitation Center to determine the size of the addiction problem and provide appropriate solutions to reduce the issues of addiction, five-year strategy included building an accurate database and a scientific approach through the creation and the efficient management of public health and research department, also an automation of all processes and procedures through the center will be implemented via the support services and medical operations after it was done manually to exploit the time and elevate the level of efficiency and productivity.
Additionally, an outpatient clinic will be established to open the way for patients who do not need the permanent residence in the Center during the treatment period ,besides providing aftercare for NRC graduates, which is an important priority in the new strategy of the center, as well as promoting social responsibility of enterprises and companies in the public and private sectors to provide job opportunities for graduates of the center and provide them with proper training to be qualified to work and help them to integrate back into society.
Also, the new strategy focused on developing awareness programs based on research through promoting awareness and healthy behaviors and ensuring patients’ safety in all health care services and enhancing the confidence of the patient's in the health care system through the implementation of the highest international standards. His Excellency pointed that the key challenges facing initiatives, including the provision of adequate number and required competencies for the medical staff to provide medical and treatment services in the new units that will be added to the activities of the Center adding to it the difficulty of recruiting specialists in the field of addiction treatment who are fluent in Arabic from the GCC and the Middle East.
